REP. PIERSON VOTES FOR HISTORIC PUBLIC SCHOOL FUNDING BILL
AUSTIN, TX — State Representative Pierson voted today in favor of House Bill 2 (HB2), critical legislation that delivers nearly $8 billion in new funding for public education, marking the largest increase to public school funding in Texas history.
HB2 injects nearly $8 billion directly into schools, focused on providing classrooms, teachers, and students the resources they need. Key highlights include:
- $3.2+ billion to increase the Basic Allotment by $395 per student.
- $1.8 billion to expand special education funding, incorporating recommendations from the Special Education Funding Commission to support evaluations and services for students with special needs.
- $1.1+ billion to boost small and midsize district adjustments.
- $750+ million to increase teacher pay, putting top educators on a path to six-figure salaries.
- $450+ million for teacher training and professional development.
- $1.5+ billion to expand Pre-K, fine arts, high school career advising, and targeted operational support to reduce achievement gaps.
This is a monumental investment in Texas public education, our children, and our future. These targeted dollars will be felt directly by teachers, students, and schools across the state, ensuring no child falls through the cracks.
